For Others' Beliefs
We finished the bird-house
You my son, and I for Papa Joe
Because he will die soon and
Suddenly everything is vital;
More frequently he attended Mass,
Now he can't so it is up to all of us.
When the man in robes and Nikes said
To take communion,
To reply to his incantations,
To have our throats blessed,
To sing, to pray,
We stared at our shoes
Hopefully
Unnoticed
By those who knew
What to do.
We did this in the name of Papa Joe.
Today we will hang the house,
The seed ball and seed bell she gave us;
I'm not sure but that Mother-dear thinks
Bird-seed is the body of Christ
To be offered for Papa Joe's migration.
But hang it, we will.
There is love
So easy
As staring at our shoes.
