About the Nickel Tour |
Can you spell orca? Wyland asks the audience. A
resounding O-R-C-A echoes from voices reminiscent of Saturday morning
cliff-hanger matinees, when we were kids. Such exuberance brings a lump to your throat. He
points out gray whales, white whales and asks if they know what balines eat. They do.
The students of OV Elementary are "stoked" and be assured that
its likely the lowest absentee day in history there. The artist presents Fay Uber
(then Principal) with his beautiful coffee table book and proceeds with the business of
the day: painting.
The
children have been schooling themselves in preparation for assisting him at
Fridays big event. Recall Wylands beautiful Whaling Wall on the
side of downtown Norfolks Omni; the children all know of his work in advance. His
calling is to inspire us all to appreciate the marine life and preserve it and his
non-profit foundation is dedicated to the same.
